Loreena McKennitt’s unique “eclectic Celtic” music continues to weave its magic in Europe. The Canadian singer announced dates next year in as part of her first European visit since the summer of 2008.

'I’m really looking forward to bringing my music to my audiences again,' she said, announcing the tour. 'It’s always been a pleasure to meet so many people who have found a place in their lives for my music.'

European audiences will once again meet guitarist Brian Hughes, violinist Hugh Marsh and cellist Caroline Lavelle, who have performed with McKennitt on several extensive tours in the past and will bring in some new guests on stage.

Musically, audiences will hear pieces from many of the singer’s dozen albums, which have explored the roots of Celtic music, and carried her on a musical journey that has taken her from Asia Minor to Ireland.

Originally from a small town of Canada’s Prairies, Loreena McKennitt made her first record in 1985 as something to sell while she was busking in downtown Toronto — a recording that took her across the country on the first of dozens of concert tours she has made since. Succeeding records reflected both her adventures around the world, and her ongoing search for the roots of Celtic music.

She has always retained control of her music, her record label, and her active business, and is one of the most successful independent musicians in Canada.

Along the way, Loreena McKennitt has won numerous prizes and awards, including her country’s highest civil honour, The Order of Canada. She has sold 14 million records, she’s written film and television scores, and created three concert DVDs. The international appeal of her music is reflected on her website, www.quinlanroad.com, which is available in 14 different languages.
