Miaskovsky Symphony No10 in F minor Op 30 Alexander Goehr When Adam Fell (BBC commission: world premiere) Castiglioni Concerto for Orchestra (UK premiere) Schoenberg Chamber Symphony Op 9b BBC Symphony Orchestra Oliver Knussen conductor
Miaskovsky's 10th Symphony provides the dramatic highlight, with its tremendous portrayal of a drowning brought on by a curse. But in its perfectly chiselled way, the Concerto for Orchestra by Niccoló Castiglione is no less striking. Alongside them are the orchestral version of Schoenberg's masterly first Chamber Symphony and a new work from Alexander Goehr.
From the complete Sibelius Symphonies, to Dvorak’s neglected masterpiece The Jacobin and thrilling premieres by today’s most exciting composers, there is something for everyone in the BBC Symphony Orchestra’s 2011-12 season. Find out more in our special season preview film:
