Bartók Dance Suite György Kurtág ...concertante... (UK Premiere) Sibelius Symphony No 6 Sibelius Symphony No 7 BBC Symphony Orchestra Jukka-Pekka Saraste conductor Hiromi Kikuchi violin Ken Hakii viola
A burst of stamping, earthy energy from Bartok’s Dance Suite sets this concert in motion. Then come the wispy dialogues of Kurtág’s double concerto, which leave all trace of bodily rhythms behind. The second half continues the BBC SO’s Sibelius symphony cycle with the ‘cold clear water’ of the Sixth Symphony, and the stark loneliness of the Seventh.
From the complete Sibelius Symphonies, to Dvorak’s neglected masterpiece The Jacobin and thrilling premieres by today’s most exciting composers, there is something for everyone in the BBC Symphony Orchestra’s 2011-12 season. Find out more in our special season preview film:
