Kafka Fragments - An introduction
Kafka Fragments - In depth
Kafka Fragments - Performers and Creative Team
The innovative director, Peter Sellars, has enhanced György Kurtág's Kafka Fragments – a powerful and penetrating musical work that possesses vivid dramatic possibilities.
The 40 fragments – some lasting a few minutes, some shorter still – are taken from Kafka's diaries and letters, and set for violin and soprano in a creative manner that rigorously tests both vocal and instrumental agility.
Dawn Upshaw is one of the most inquisitive and talented of today's singers, gifts which have resulted in deep artistic bonds with frequent musical collaborators – Sellars included – which have greatly enriched our appreciation of what musical performance can achieve. Geoff Nuttall, the dynamic and imaginative violinist, joins Ms. Upshaw in an electric and poignant performance of intense musical collaboration.
‘Dawn Upshaw is one of the most significant and dramatically moving singers before the public today, and right now she is unmistakably in her prime.’ Boston Globe
