A lurid, darkly funny cult classic based on a true crime story from the 1940s.

Sullen, overweight and alone, Martha strikes up a lonely-heart’s correspondence with Ray, a balding, smooth-talking Latin gigolo. After a torrid team-up, the pair pose as sister and brother and embark on a year-long spree murdering other lonely-hearts for their money.

Marguerite Duras called it the greatest love story she’d ever seen and art-house auteurs Michelangelo Antonioni and Francois Truffaut were fans. See it for yourself this Valentine’s on 35mm.
