London 2013 Trailer from Palestine Film Foundation on Vimeo
It took a riot in the streets of La Paz to prevent the Bolivian government from cancelling the 1969 premiere of Blood of the Condor. Director Jorge Sanjines’s non-professional indigenous cast tells the story of a young man who, whilst trying to obtain a blood transfusion for a brother injured during anti-government protests, discovers a covert U.S. Peace Corps programme aimed at sterilising the indigenous poor.
Blood of the Condor’s stirring call for revolution against the cultural and political oppression of the U.S. has been celebrated as a pivotal work of militant anti-colonial cinema.
