Make/Shift: with Bex Burch
4 July 2017 / 19:30
Barbican Exhibition Halls
This year, the work of a collective of artists and musicians will transform the Barbican Exhibition Halls through found materials, sound, image and light. Tonight there will be short musical performances following the Make/Shift show. Special guests will include percussionist and Guildhall alumna Bex Burch of Vula Viel (Financial Times ★★★★ | Songlines ★★★★ | Jazzwise ★★★★ | London Evening Standard ★★★★) as well as performances of news works by Geoffa Fells and Sylvia Lim.
Make/Shift is this year’s collaborative project between musicians from the Guildhall School and visual arts students from Central St Martins.
The project is run by the MAP/making group (Sophie Clements, Nell Catchpole, Detta Danford, Natasha Zielazinski and Jo Wills), a long-standing educational project that brings together musicians and visual artists in a yearly site-specific performance. The work produced is the result of a three-month collaboration between the students, and takes the form of a performance installation, combining live performance, audio visual work and installation environments.
The MAP/making group has run projects for the last 15 years, and has exhibited at The Bath International Music Festival, Aldeburgh Festival, LSO St Lukes and the Barbican.
