Nerd Nite is a monthly event held in more than 90 cities across the globe, during which several speakers give fun yet informative presentations on subjects spanning all disciplines. To complement Into the Unknown: A Journey through Science Fiction at the Barbican, Nerd Nite presents three talks inspired by the genre.

The evening begins with Molecular Machines, in which Dr Morgan Beeby, Lecturer in Structural Biology at Imperial College, London, explores the potential of molecular machines if harnessed for our own purposes, and the resulting technological, economic, and societal implications.

In The Psychology of Dr Who, Dr Sarita Robinson, Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Central Lancashire, explores both human and alien psychology to gain a better understanding of The Doctor, and determine the impact that travelling in time and space has on his long-suffering companions.

To conclude the evening, Programmer Chris Jones presents The Economics of Sci-Fi, in which he questions whether a Star Trek economy could actually work.
