About Matt L. T. Smith

A Barbican Young Poet, Matt L T Smith, performed as part of the show A Change is Gonna Come, a collaboration between Barbican Young Poets and Boy Blue Entertainment, directed by Jacob Sam-La Rose and Mikey Asante. Matt was 'hand-picked by Joelle Taylor herself' to perform a set at the SLAMbassadors 2018 Showcase and worked with the BBC Symphony Youth Choir on a rendition of David Lang's Memorial Ground broadcast on BBC Radio 3. In 2021 Matt performed for Poetry Jam's 8th Birthday for Beatfreeks. Matt works with people with dementia on the project Finding the Words, developed by Anvil Arts, where Matt takes down the words of participants and turns them into poetry. Matt holds a First Class Honours in BA Creative Writing with the Creative Writing Prize for Poetry and a Distinction in MA Creative & Critical Writing from the University of Winchester.
