Instagrammer in Residence

Alexandra Tzirkoti (February 2019)

'I’ve always been interested in the relationship between the image and the viewer, the reader and the text. These days I’m working as a picture editor for the London Review of Books, creating and choosing images for social media use. I love visual puns and I have another Instagram account (@thereadviewer) devoted mostly to that. '

'My favourite photographs are always those that tell a story – especially when it’s not entirely clear whose story is being told! '

What inspires you about the Barbican?

'I love how the Barbican can either be the star of the show, with its imposing, magnificent architecture, or subtly provide the perfect background for everyday scenes.

I’m also amazed by the way this space changes according to the weather: exuberant and lively when it’s sunny, melancholic and reserved when it’s dark and misty… The Barbican has its moods, just like its inhabitants! '
