Jazz and The City

EFG London Jazz Festival

Sidney Poitier and Diahann Carroll in Paris Blues

This programme brings together a short selection of films which, in their own unique way, captures the relationship between jazz and the city.

From providing a sonic accompaniment to questions of inequality, racial discrimination and urban ennui of London’s black community in the Black Audio Film Collective’s Who Needs A Heart, to its role in community building in South Central LA in Charles Burnett’s When It Rains, each film positions jazz music as emanating from the experiences of those occupying the city.
