Echoes of Scotland

Live from the Barbican

Alpesh Chauhan in front of a Barbican tower silhouette with radio waves emitting from it

Venture to the beautiful Scottish Highlands with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and conductor Alpesh Chauhan as the wild landscapes are brought vividly to life through music.

We live-stream the BBC SO from our Hall to your home as they draw on Celtic songs, prayers and inspiration in an atmospheric concert. Mendelssohn’s poetic Symphony No 3 begins their journey, as they emulate Mendelssohn's travels through Scotland.

BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist Timothy Ridout makes his Barbican stage debut for Sally Beamish’s emotional lullaby-inspired Viola Concerto, Under the Wing of the Rock, before the post-riotous end to the Scottish wedding celebrations with Maxwell Davies’s joyful An Orkney Wedding, with Sunrise, complete with bagpipe solo, brings a jubilant end to this evocative programme.

This livestream will be available to watch back until Tue 27 Apr at 8pm. You can buy a ticket up until this point.

This performance is expected to finish around 9.15pm, with no interval.

Co-produced by the Barbican and BBC Symphony Orchestra
