BBC SO Sibelius the Storyteller: Crossings, Creations and Immersions

An image of Anu leaning against a grey-blue pillar

Experience magic, mystery and miracles as Sibelius casts a spell with his orchestra, weaving Finnish legends, fairytales and woodland fantasies.

Our Total Immersion in the world of Sibelius the Storyteller culminates in the composer’s last major orchestral work and what many consider his supreme masterpiece. In Tapiola, Sibelius takes his technique of musical distillation to its limits, conjuring up the spirit of Finland’s dark and mysterious ancient forests with a score that manages to combine anxiety with reassurance.

Before it, we hear visions of sunrise in both vocal and orchestral form, while Anu Komsi joins her husband Sakari Oramo for all the radiance of Sibelius’s take on Finland’s magical creation myth, Luonnatar

The performance will finish at approximately 8.45pm.
