A squishy squashy adventure for under-fives

Play, build and invent in a world of texture and colour for under-fives and their families.

A freestanding cube unpacks to become a selection of blocks made out of all sorts of materials that young children can use to shape the space around them in a sensory adventure.

Check out the session times for when the blocks are popping into the foyers.

Barbican Blocks sessions have a strict capacity limit and entry will be managed on a first come first served basis.

Barbican Blocks is produced by Co-DB Play and Pop up Parks in collaboration with Barbican Guildhall Creative Learning.

Pop up Parks create vibrant spaces in urban environments that encourage children and families to spend more time being playful, creative and physically active. Their projects transform underused spaces into play areas causing communities to see their environment in a different light, and feel included in its creation and change.

The future of Barbican Blocks

Barbican Guildhall Creative Learning is excited to announce that it is developing a new offer for our under fives visitors and their families and carers following a successful collaboration with Co-DB Play and Pop up Parks on Barbican Blocks.

The new activities will continue to push the boundaries of play but will be available to more of our visitors, more of the time. Barbican Blocks will remain a part of our learning offer, making appearances through our wider public programme, community outreach and off-site events.

Barbican Blocks will run once a week throughout April with four sessions in May before the Old Shop is temporarily closed for refurbishment. Our new activities will launch in late June and so please stay tuned for further announcements.

We look forward to continuing to welcome you to the Barbican for more innovative participatory play experiences in future.

In the meantime, we encourage parents to explore the wider Under fives offer across Culture Mile including activities at the City of London Libraries.
