Pick & Mix: The Whole World is Watching (18*)

Young Barbican Events

Still from the short film Incident

Young Barbican Pick & Mix presents The Whole World is Watching, a programme of short films built entirely from non-cinematic media: CCTV, bodycam, Google Maps, desktop and phone camera footage.

Repurposing everyday material and turning surveillance and self-recording into acts of protest and testimony, The Whole World is Watching asks what it means to watch, be watched and bear witness in an age when almost everything is recorded.

Curated by documentary filmmaker, film curator and Barbican Young Film Programmers alumna Olivia West Alvarez.

This screening is followed by a Q&A and conversation about the ethics and power of found and everyday footage.

Full programme and panellists to be announced soon.

Age restriction: 18+

About the curator

Olivia is a London-based documentary filmmaker and freelance film curator. Her work moves between observational filmmaking and social inquiry. She spent six years making documentaries for British television before training as a self-shooting director at the National Film and Television School. As both a maker and curator, she's drawn to media as a tool for empowerment, proof that even amid the noise, small acts of witness can still hold real power.
