Ximena Garrido-Lecca

Public Commission

images of plants embedded in metallic industrial infrastructure, situated within a gallery space

The Peruvian artist will transform the Sculpture Court with a large-scale installation exploring the idea of 'the plant' – both as a botanical organism and as an industrial processing system.

Ximena Garrido-Lecca's work is informed by artisanal craft traditions, ancestral agricultural rituals, industrial technologies and diverse languages to question inherited histories and hierarchies of knowledge.

Inspired by ancient permaculture practices while responding to our brutalist architecture, her site-specific commission will combine plants and industrial machinery to reflect on the impact of the extraction of natural resources.

This commission will follow Delcy Morelos' origo, which marked the return of artwork to our Sculpture Court for the first time in 10 years.
