Jasdeep Singh Degun x BBC Symphony Orchestra

Artist in Residence

Jasdeep Singh smiles on stage with their instrument.

Kirill Karabits conducts Jasdeep Singh Degun's new Sitar Concerto and Sergei Prokofiev's seventh symphony in a programme that bridges cultures, contexts and continents.

Degun's second concerto for the sitar continues his groundbreaking work redefining the boundaries of Indian classical music and Western symphonic tradition, masterfully brought to life with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, followed by the poignant simplicity of Sergei Prokofiev's final symphony, originally written for the Soviet Children's Radio Division.

One of the Barbican artists-in-residence this season, Degun is rewriting the rules of the sitar, finding a bold new language that speaks across continents and centuries.

Co-produced by the Barbican Centre and BBC Symphony Orchestra.
