Hannah Peel
In Focus
Across two evenings, the boundary breaking composer presents a pair of genre-defying live performance premieres.
The first evening opens with PIA, a live dance and music experience created by choreographer Katya Bourvis, in collaboration with creative producer Tala Lee-Turton. The work is soundtracked by a seventeen-piece brass band performing Peel’s Mary Casio: Journey To Cassiopeia.
The following evening’s performance presents two live performance premieres. Hannah Peel unites with virtuosic percussionist Beibei Wang to bring to life their album, The Endless Dance. In ongoing sonic conversation, they unfold imagined sound-worlds where electronics meet traditional Chinese instruments.
Opening the evening, vocal ensemble Shards gives the world premiere of Underland. Hannah Peel’s score, adapted by Kieran Brunt, brings choir, electronics and striking imagery to the stage, drawn from Robert Petit’s film based on Robert Macfarlane’s book.
