Yuko Mohri and Christian Marclay will join forces for a one-night performance in the Barbican carpark in response to In Concert, Mohri's solo exhibition in The Curve.

Mohri elevates what seeps, leaks and escapes containment. In this performance, her exhibition will symbolically leak out of The Curve and into the adjacent carpark: two pianos will self-play via the sound of objects salvaged from the Barbican carpark and activated by Mohri and Marclay.

Transforming found objects into sound is central to both artists’ practices, and many of the items used in Mohri’s site-responsive Curve installation were sourced in the Barbican carpark.

Two Pianos, Four Hands and Four Feet will be the latest in a series of collaborative sound performances by Yuko Mohri, alongside artists and musicians including legendary sound artist Akio Suzuki, visionary composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, multi-instrumentalist Eiko Ishibashi and musician and producer Jim O'Rourke.

Guests are invited to explore Yuko Mohri’s exhibition in The Curve before the performance. The bar in the car park will be open from 6.30pm, with the performance beginning at 7pm.

Please note: This performance is not suitable for children under 8.

Artist biographies

Yuko Mohri is a Tokyo-based artist whose work spans kinetic sculpture, sound, film, photography and painting. Known for repurposing everyday and found objects, Mohri creates chains of reaction activated by ‘unstable elements’ – including magnetism, electricity, gravity, dust and water, often with humorous and unexpected results. Rather than presenting a finished composition, she choreographs environments where changing inputs generate unpredictable outputs, manifesting as sound, motion and scent within continuously transforming installations. Her Barbican exhibition In Concert, which marks the 20th anniversary of commissioning artists for The Curve, runs until 24th January 2027.

Christian Marclay is a visual artist and composer known for his work in a wide range of media, including sculpture, video, photography, collage, performance, and music. For the last 40 years he has been exploring the connections between the visual and the audible. Marclay began his exploration into sound through performances with turntables in 1979. Since then he has presented works applying collage techniques to various audio and visual materials. In the 1990s he started creating graphic scores to be interpreted by other musicians. Since 2012, he has carried out the project “Found in”, incorporating sounds produced by everyday objects found in cities such as Oslo, Milan, Venice, Basel, Sapporo and Buenos Aires.
