Two Prosecutors (12A)

Two men sit at a desk in a wood-panelled room, one in a large chair with a serious expression and the other also serious, in a smaller visiting chair.

Based on the true story of the previous gulag prisoner Georgy Demidov, comes a chilling tale of political justice under the Stalin era, by Ukrainian director Sergei Loznitsa (The Trial).

Russia, 1937. Newly appointed local Soviet prosecutor Alexander Kornyev receives a letter, which has come to him against all odds. Written by a falsely accused detainee and only barely avoiding destruction, it attempts to expose corruption within the regime's secret police, the NKVD.

The young attorney is driven to seek justice, only to embark on a Kafkaesque odyssey that increasingly threatens his liberty.

Devastating as an account of life under totalitarianism and Joseph Stalin's reign, acclaimed Ukrainian director Sergei Loznitsa's film is a restrained yet deeply haunting historical drama.

The film had its world premiere in the main competition at Cannes 2025, where it won the François Chalais Prize (dedicated to the values of journalism). Starring Aleksandr Kuznetsov and Aleksandr Filippenko.
