The Testament of Ann Lee (15*)

People dance on top of ship

Amanda Seyfried stars as the founder of a devotional Christian sect in this striking musical drama by Mona Fastvold (The Brutalist).

Set in 1700s England and America, Seyfried stars as the Shaker's irrepressible leader, who preached gender and social equality and was revered by her followers.

The film follows Ann through her life, from a clever child, to a faith-driven wife and mother, and traces the trials and crossroads that lead her to become a religious figure that would go down in history.

A gut-wrenching musical that chronicles the rise of the Shaker movement across the Atlantic, The Testament of Ann Lee uses phenomenal (almost theatrical) movement and music, to tell an age-old story of devotion and morality. The score blends traditional Shaker hymns and original compositions.
