The Incomer (12A)

A man yelling on a mountain

On an Orkney isle, siblings Isla and Sandy fend off outsiders and commune with mythical beings, until an awkward official arrives to relocate them.

The film follows the tiny island’s sole inhabitants, a pair of siblings living a stripped-back existence governed by superstition, ritual and rules no outsider is meant to understand.

Their isolated world is thrown into disarray by the arrival of a newcomer (Domhnall Gleeson), a mild-mannered land-recovery official whose tidy bureaucratic worldview is at odds with their deeply ritualistic way of life.

Writer-director Louis Paxton draws on his Orcadian family roots for this darkly comic, offbeat tale about belonging and folklore.
