Stage, Screen & Social Change: In Conversation with Benedict Cumberbatch, Indira Varma, Juliet Stevenson, Toby Jones & Lennie James

An evening in support of Compass Collective

Toby Jones

For one night only, some of the UK’s best-loved actors interview each other about their careers and the issues that matter, in support of refugee arts organisation Compass Collective.

Five of the biggest names on stage and screen join forces for an inspiring, thought-provoking and heart-warming evening at the Barbican. Interviewing each other and taking questions from the audience, they will reflect on life, acting, the arts and social change.

All proceeds from this event will go directly to supporting Compass Collective, a charity supporting and empowering young refugees and asylum seekers through the arts.

"As a Trustee of the brilliant and formidable Compass Collective I am proud to take part in our crucial fundraiser at the Barbican on June 28th. I am fascinated to share the stage with four extraordinary actors as we each support Compass Collective and its fantastic work."

Compass Collective

Compass Collective is an award-winning arts charity supporting young refugees and asylum seekers to integrate and thrive in the UK. From creative English classes to theatre, music and film projects, all our programmes are designed to build confidence, skills and agency.

Founded in 2018 by a group of young creatives, we have directly supported more than 1000 young people and have collaborated with arts institutions including Barbican, Shakespeare's Globe, Eden Court and Southbank Centre.

Our vision is that young people seeking sanctuary in the UK are welcomed, celebrated, heard and understood. In the context of an increasingly hostile asylum system and ever-growing barriers to accessing the arts, our work is needed now more than ever.

“A lot of people came to watch us. They listened, watched, clapped, and smiled. Their support meant so much. It made me feel proud, seen, and valued. Through our stories, the audience learned more about our cultures, traditions, and what it’s like to start a new life in a different country.”
