Sidiki Dembélé: West African Traditions

Mohopolo/Ancestral Memory Weekend

2026_CL_Abel Selaocoe_Workshop

Marilyn Modica

Join multi-instrumentalist Sidiki Dembélé for a percussion workshop exploring the Djembe, a drum he calls “a spiritual force, teaching us to live in peace, love, respect, humility, and tolerance.”

Sidiki Dembélé has performed and composed internationally with leading organisations including the BBC Concert Orchestra and the Royal Shakespeare Company. In his teaching, from hands-on workshops to annual trips to the Ivory Coast, he shares the depth, spirit and cultural roots of his music.

He will also appear in the evening performance of Sithunyiwe, alongside members of the Bantu Ensemble, presenting a new work by Mthuthuzeil November with music by Mbuso Khoza, Abel Selaocoe and Nduduzo Makhathini.

Creative Collaboration Masterclasses offer a unique opportunity to gain deeper insight into our artistic programme and the artists behind it.
