Hyenas (15)

Senior Community Cinema

Djibril Diop Mambéty adapts a timeless parable of human greed into a biting satire.

Set in the impoverished village of Colobane, Hyenas follows the return of Linguère Ramatou, a woman who has amassed extraordinary wealth and offers to restore the town’s fortunes, on one condition: the execution of the man who once betrayed her. As the community grapples with the moral implications of her demand, the lure of consumer goods and credit begins to erode their sense of justice.

Directed by Djibril Diop Mambéty and adapted from a play by Friedrich Dürrenmatt, the film blends satire and allegory with striking visual invention. Moving between past and present, it offers a vivid and unsettling reflection on greed, complicity, and the price of dignity.
