Preview: The Testament of Ann Lee (15*)

The Testament of Ann Lee

Amanda Seyfried stars as the founder of the devotional Christian sect in this rattling musical drama by Mona Fastvold.

Set in 1700s England and America, Amanda Seyfried stars as the Shaker's irrepressible leader, who preached gender and social equality and was revered by her followers.

The film follows Ann through her life, from a clever child, to a faith-driven wife and mother, and traces the trials and crossroads in her life that lead her to become a religious figure that went down in history.

A gut-wrenching musical following the rise of The Shaker movement across the Atlantic, The Testament of Ann Lee uses phenomenal (almost theatrical) movement and music to tell an age-old story of devotion and morality.

Directed by Mona Fastvold, fresh off her work on The Brutalist
