Backrooms (15)

Parent & Baby Screening

A man walking in an empty yellow room

Twenty-year-old auteur Kane Parsons opens a portal to a horror parallel universe based on a disquieting 4chan message board.

Clark (Chiwetel Ejiofor) discovers a mysterious doorway in the basement of a furniture showroom. He quickly becomes obsessed with the space. Upon telling his therapist, Dr. Mary Kline (Renate Reinsve), about his discovery, she is hesitant in accepting that what he saw was actually real.

Attempting to prove its existence, Clark documents footage of the Backrooms. However, when he eventually disappears into the dimension beyond reality, Dr. Mary Kline must venture into the unknown to save him.

Parsons was 16 when he created his web series, The Backrooms: Found Footage, in 2022. He is now part of a new cohort of directors that went viral on YouTube before making their feature debuts.

In order to bring this liminal internet space into reality, the Backrooms were built across four soundstages, spanning over 30,000 square feet.
