Orphan (15)

A young boy stands in front of a plank wall, onto which posters have been pasted.

From Academy Award-winning filmmaker László Nemes (Son of Saul), comes this stunning historical drama following a young Jewish boy in 1957 Budapest.

In the aftermath of the uprising against the Communist regime, Andor’s world is turned upside down when a brutish man (Grégory Gadebois) appears, claiming to be his true father. What follows is a series of revelations, both about Andor’s mother’s (Andrea Waskovics) survival during the Holocaust and about the stories she has told him of his missing father all his life.

Channelling the greats of 20th Century neorealist cinema, Nemes’ latest feature offers a haunting and deeply moving exploration of identity and memory, tracing the fragile process of rebuilding a sense of self against the shadow of history.
