Filme Pin + An Incomplete Calendar (15*)

Open City Documentary Festival

A multicoloured beige, red, and blue badge on a black background. There are two cartoon soldiers standing side by side in the centre, and text at the top and bottom reading 'Das geeinte Volk wird siegen' at the top and 'Solidarität mit Portugal'.

Two films exploring post- and de-colonial movements, and the solidarity to be found between disparate yet intersecting causes.

In Filme Pin and An Incomplete Calendar, filmmakers explore archival materials and unearth newfound connections, curiosities, and questions within these intimate relics of solidarity.

Through a personal badge collection and an album of forgotten folk songs, mapping emerges between seemingly competing and contrasting causes, charting both historical action and the promises still to be realised.

Followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers.

Total programme running-time: 2hrs (approx.)

Film Programme

Filme Pin
2026, Colombia, Portugal, dir. María Rojas Arias & Andrés Jurado, 7 mins

One by one, front and back, a filmmaker shares the badge collection of her late grandfather, in a tactile and intimate showcase of the relics of solidarity and organising. Badges of disparate yet intersecting causes, movements and figures unearth a genealogy of radical post- and de-colonial movements, in which synapses, curiosities and unanswered questions abound.

In Portuguese with English subtitles.

An Incomplete Calendar
2026, Canada, Venezuela, Iran, Turkey, dir. Sanaz Sohrabi, 1hr 17mins

In 1980, the Concert Choir of the Central University of Venezuela recorded Rhymes and Songs for OPEC, an album of folk songs from the states comprising the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, in commemoration of OPEC’s 20th anniversary.

Proceeding from this remarkable gesture of cultural solidarity among non-aligned nations, An Incomplete Calendar interweaves forgotten songs with an astonishing archival record to tell a story of oil not as a commodity for neoliberal domination, but rather a medium for leverage in the liberation struggle in Palestine and the creation of Pan-Arab and greater Global South solidarity.

A culmination of over six years of archival research, this film is a cartography of the dreamworld of decolonisation, of competing and contrasting political imaginaries, and utopian promises still to be realised.

In Arabic, English, Farsi and Spanish with English subtitles.

The UK premiere of An Incomplete Calendar is co-presented with Alchemy Film & Arts.
