My Father's Island (15)

To heal their fractured relationship, a father and his young son move to an uninhabited Scandinavian island, in this touching survival thriller.

Adapted from a novella by David Vann, the story follows Tom (Arlaud, Anatomy Of A Fall) who contacts his estranged wife (Tuppence Middleton) to arrange a year-long wilderness retreat with their son (Woody Norman, recognisable from his breakout roll in C'mon C'mon).

Although riddled with scepticism, she takes pity on Tom's loneliness, and so the father and son travel to an isolated Finnish island where they will live in a small cabin, fishing and hunting, and providing for themselves off the land for an entire year.

What begins as a wholesome soul-searching adventure, soon becomes an intense fight for survival. With deeply intimate performances from both Arlaud and Norman, My Father's Island digs deep into male relationships, vulnerability and human durability at its limits.
