A young woman looking into the wall

Told in four different timeframes in the same rural German family home, Mascha Schilinski's new film delves into national guilt, shame and yearning.

Four girls, Alma (1910s), Erika (1940s), Angelika (1980s), and Lenka (2020s) each spend their youth on the same farm in northern Germany.

As the home evolves over a century, echoes of the past linger in its walls. Though separated by time, their lives begin to mirror each other, revealing shared secrets that have been kept hidden.

Powerfully unsettling, this Cannes Jury Prize winner is rich with craft as these women, separated by decades are united by cosmic echoes of their trauma.

Co-written with Louise Peter and shot by Fabian Gamper whose camera moves like a ghost, observing the unease and disquiet of the farm.
