Mare's Nest (PG)

A little girl drives a car through a sandy desert landscape.

The latest experimental film from British artist and filmmaker Ben Rivers follows a young girl called Moon (Moon Guo-Barker), who adventures alone through an uncanny world devoid of adults.

Crossing landscapes equally remote and barren, a young girl called Moon encounters a series of other children: three weird sisters reminiscent of Shakespearean characters, a child scholar accompanied by a child translator, and an ensemble of other curious characters.

Her journey draws a poignant resonance to our current moment of great uncertainty.

Getting its title from an idiom meaning a false discovery or a chaotic, confused situation, Mare's Nest is a cine-poem, bringing to the foreground issues of climate catastrophe, communication and division between people.
