How do the words of Pan-African leaders relate to our modern-day? This listening session dissects the recorded speeches and soundbites from some of history’s significant activists.

Organiser and political commentator Busayo Twins hosts a deep listening session with Nubia Assata and Niles 'Asheber' Hailstones, dissecting the political speeches, discussions, and soundbites to discuss the words of Pan-African activists and leaders and examine how Pan-Africanism relates to our modern day and what the future of Pan-Africanism looks like.

Everything Is Political is a series by Busayo Twins breaking down complex political issues with clarity, urgency and care.

Full line up of guests to be announced.

Complementing the Project a Black Planet: The Art & Culture of Panafrica exhibition, this specially curated strand of listening sessions invites audiences into the Gallery across three Friday nights to view the exhibition before an opportunity to reflect collectively via a thought-provoking, multi-disciplinary session.

Speakers

Busayo Twins is a TEDx speaker, political commentator and content creator specialising in providing critical analysis of key political and social phenomena by examining their systemic causes, intersectional impacts, and broader implications. She is the creator and host of the Everything is Political series on Instagram Reels, where she delves into the political dimensions of everyday topics, encouraging viewers to recognise the pervasive nature of politics in daily life. Busayo has a professional background in policy, advocacy and youth engagement aimed at improving the outcomes of marginalised communities across the U.K. She is also an alum of the London School of Economics (LSE) and was elected as the first Black General Secretary of its students' union. Alongside her writing and public speaking, Busayo continues to engage audiences with thought-provoking content that challenges perspectives and fosters meaningful conversations about society and politics.

Nubia Assata is a journalist, director, and twice-published author. Her literary works have all been grounded in bringing radical thought to the forefront of youth culture. This complements her work across spatial curation and film, through which she explores Pan-African ideas and ways of being. Nubia is also the Founder and Director of be still; a wellness organisation producing restorative practices that are both rooted and radical.
