Fantasy (15*)

Kino Bloc

Three young women stand together on a balcony in front of a large crop of sunlit apartments under a darkening sky.

Mihrije, Sina and Jasna are three friends in their early 20s living in Slovenia. Refusing to conform to the conservative system they live in, their world changes when they meet a woman named Fantasy.

As a transgender woman, Fantasy’s disruptive arrival creates space for self-exploration, joy, and desire. Blending dreamlike imagery and realism, Fantasy is a tender, contemporary coming-of-age story that explores the fluidity of gender, sexuality and self-expression with warmth and humour.

Premiering at the Locarno Film Festival, Fantasy marks Kukla as an exciting new voice in European cinema. Casting an ensemble of mostly first-time actors, this debut feature is a bold coming-of-age story shaped by freedom, uncertainty, and the possibilities of transformation.

Fantasy has been selected as Slovenia’s candidate for the Best International Feature Film at the 2027 Academy Awards.
