Hen (15)

Hen by water

György Pálfi's darkly comic allegory shifts the lens on a chicken who escapes an industrial farm and seeks refuge, in a film that mirrors a world shaped by greed and exploitation.

In a bold journey that navigates turkey hierarchies, cunning foxes and an unwavering defence of eggs, Pálfi brings us a bittersweet tale that filters human cruelty through an animal's quest for home.

Surrounded by human struggles with greed, smuggling and the migrant crisis, Hen frames events purely within the perspective of an animal; our pain would be incomprehensible to her, and vice versa.

Following Taxidermia (2004) and Free Fall (2014), Pálfi continues in his satirical grotesqueries, but changes tact; allowing us to feel sentimental for what is proposed to be the most unlikely recipient of our emotions: the humble chicken.
