Join Soweto-born master percussionist Gontse Makhene for a workshop that explores his practice across percussion traditions, sharing his music across a series of instruments.

A member of the legendary Kwani Experience, he has collaborated with leading South African jazz artists like Nduduzo Makhathini, Malcom Jiyane and many others, adding textured rhythmic layers that connect African pulse with modern jazz grooves.

Tickets can include a ticket to the Sunday evening performance of Sithunyiwe, where Gontse and members of the Bantu ensemble perform in the presentation of a new work by choreographer Mthuthuzeil November with music by Mbuso Khoza, Abel Selaocoe and Nduduzo Makhathini.

Creative Collaboration Masterclasses are unique opportunities to delve deeper into our artistic programme, offering access and insight to artists’ practice and perspectives.
