The Man Who Had His Hair Cut Short + Harpya

Cinema Restored x Flemish Film Classics

In black and white, a man sits at a table looking at a tool he is using with his hands.

A cornerstone of Flemish cinema, André Delvaux creates a defining work of cinematic magical realism.

Adapted from the novel by Johan Daisne, the film traces the psychological unravelling of a reserved teacher whose obsessive love leads him into a world where memory, desire and reality blur.

With its haunting atmosphere and precise visual language, Delvaux's film marked a decisive shift towards a more modern, introspective Flemish cinema with international resonance.

Raoul Servais's Harpya (1979), winner of the Palme d'Or for Best Short Film, completes the programme. Combining live action with animation, Servais creates a darkly surreal fable in which a man's encounter with a mythological creature spirals into a disturbing allegory of power and control.
