Maya Give Me a Title (U)

Family Film Week

A young woman runs through a city, drawn from a high up perspective.

A gloriously zany and personal film from Michel Gondry told with DIY animation and heaps of charm.

Michel Gondry – director of The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (amongst others) – lived in a separate country to his young daughter, Maya, for many years, but to keep their connection strong, he would create animations and films for her based on prompts she gave him. The result was a hilarious journey featuring Maya as the star, using stop motion, paper cut outs and scotch tape – including cat bandits, earthquakes, police chases and more!

Surreal and wonderful, this joyful film is a great chance to introduce your little one to some international cinema and an acclaimed director of Oscar-winning fame.

In French with English subtitles. Subtitles read aloud via headsets for children. Headsets available first come, first served on entry to auditorium.

Age suggestion: 6+

This film has been BBFC classified as a U – but assessing suitability of any film is the responsibility of parent/guardian. Please see www.bbfc.co.uk for more information on film ratings and content guidelines. We recommend that families research film titles thoroughly before committing to attend.

Please note: This screening is for families to attend as a group. Adults (over 18s) can only enter auditorium if they are bringing a child. Children (under 18s) can only attend if accompanied by an adult. Babes in arms of 18months and under can be brought in on adults’ laps, but children over 18months need a seat purchased for them.

Useful Information

The film screening will allow some movement and noise from young film fans, but please be mindful of other audience members' experience (and please switch off phones).

If your little one needs a break from the screening, please note, we have a selection of books & games in the Cinema Café for you to use.

The Family Film Week programme aims to screen films from a range of countries, styles and times, introducing a young audience to historical/archive content as well as the latest new releases. There is a suggested minimum age for films, but assessing suitability of any film is always the responsibility of the parent/guardian.
