A Focus on Gabriel Abrantes: Ratzo Presents... (15)

Experiments in Film

An animated rat with large ears stands beside a piano alongside rubble and mess.

An unruly collection of cinematic oddities and satirical sketches hosted by Ratzo – a mischievous virtual rat and alter ego of filmmaker Gabriel Abrantes.

Serving as master of ceremonies, commentator and occasional saboteur, Ratzo guides audiences through a selection of deadpan absurdities, musical interludes and gleefully inappropriate comic turns, ranging from from the Fleischer Brothers’ delirious 1932 experiment in proto-motion capture, to Conner O’Malley’s unhinged reflections on masculinity.

Expect appearances from a Lubitschian Bartleby who expresses refusal with a perfectly timed raspberry, Benjamin Crotty’s self-pitying chauvinist, and Patti Harrison serenading the audience with a disarmingly bleak torch song.

A night of delirium, delusion and gloriously problematic humour – hosted by the internet’s most charismatic rodent.

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) provides guidance to audiences, to help them choose what’s right for them and avoid what’s not. For guidance, please click here and type the film title into the search bar.

This event is a collaboration with Gasworks, coinciding with the opening of Gabriel Abrantes: Bardo Loops.
