Peven Everett: Voice of a Generation + ScreenTalk with director Denholm Hewlett and Peven Everett (12A*)

Doc'n Roll Film Festival 2026

A man playing a guitar in front of a red background

Discover the incredible untold story of Peven Everett – a prolific Chicago musician, multi-instrumentalist, and the voice of dance music.

Across soul music, house music and dance music, Everett has created over 50 albums of original music through his own record label, Studio Confession, alongside VP and chanteuse Billie Jewell. Raised among jazz legends like Miles Davis, Betty Carter and Roy Hargrove, his influence and musical footprint has shaped generations.

Featuring exclusive in-depth interviews, rare archival material and live performances, this enticing documentary traces his story from child jazz prodigy to a pioneering force across music, and features Damon Albarn, Yasiin Bey, Gorillaz, Karriem Riggins, DJ Rashida, Marc Cary, The Twilite Tone, Moodymann, Bootie Brown and more.

We are delighted that this screening of Peven Everett: Voice of a Generation will also be followed by a ScreenTalk with director Denholm Hewlett and Peven Everett.
