London-based architect Takero Shimazaki discusses the ideas and design approaches behind a selection of projects by t-sa, including the recently completed Yard Theatre in Hackney Wick.
Shimazaki co-founded the London-based architecture practice t-sa in 1996, following formative years working with a number of influential architects and practices, including Itsuko Hasegawa Atelier, Richard Rogers Partnership, and Alison and Peter Smithson.
These experiences shaped an approach to architecture that considers how buildings fit into their surroundings and how local communities experience them.
Alongside his practice, Shimazaki is a senior lecturer in architecture at London Metropolitan University.
The Architecture Foundation, in association with the Barbican, presents Architecture on Stage – a programme of talks by the world's leading architects.
