Jay Kelly (15)

Parent & Baby Screening

George Clooney and Adam Sandler are a seamless star and agent duo in Noah Baumbach's latest heart-felt drama on purpose, Hollywood and connection.

A seasoned Hollywood star questions his life choices; when his daughter leaves home, he is left feeling empty, and undergoes a trip around Europe with his long-time agent to search for meaning.

George Clooney plays with upmost tenderness, and Adam Sandler proves again (post Uncut Gems) that he is a phenomenal actor, in Noah Baumbach's love-letter to Hollywood. In reality, Jay Kelly reads more like a diary entry; not shying away from the gritty loneliness of stardom and the industry.

The film sits perfectly in Baumbach's portfolio, a canon that plays out almost chronologically: from his early, awkward, unconfident relationship portrayals like Frances Ha; to the pain of reality and unmet dreams in Marriage Story; to now, in Jay, a man later in his career, questioning the depth of his connections, and asking himself if it was all worth it.
