American Voices

Singers at Six

Four of the men of BBC Singers singing

This concert displays both beauty and novelty as new choral music from America meets a classic by Samuel Barber, all conducted by rising star Owain Park.

The BBC Singers and Owain Park present the most beautiful reminder possible that American composers have supercharged choral music’s modern renaissance. Whether with the heavenly harmonies of Eric Whitacre or the strange contemporary beauty of Nico Muhly’s sound tapestries, American choral music has expanded horizons and exploded possibilities.

That process was well underway at the time of Samuel Barber’s bold and evocative Reincarnations, written in the mid twentieth century, and remains on track courtesy of a new generation of creative, communicative and original composers personified by Jake Runestad and Gabriela Lena Frank.

The performance will finish at approximately 7pm.
