Half Six Fix: Concerto for Orchestra

Béla Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra is introduced and conducted by Sir Simon Rattle in this early-evening Half Six Fix concert.

Bartók loved folk music, not just as music, but also as an expression of the communities that keep it alive. Nowhere are those values clearer than in this, his last great masterpiece. With no official soloist, a diverse collection of instruments instead perform solos to one another, modelling the social cohesion that’s found in the celebration of difference.

Musically, it’s varied and fantastical, with lots of the techniques that inspired the modern film score. For you, it might conjure a moonlit forest, for me, a galactic star-ship; but whatever it does, it’ll be rich, vibrant and vivid.

This concert is part of Half Six Fix, a different way to experience the LSO, with an introduction to the music from Sir Simon Rattle, and digital programme notes on your phone or device. Grab a drink, take your seat and enjoy the music.

The performance is expected to finish around 7.30pm. There will be no interval.
