Christopher Purves sings Handel

A headshot of Christopher Purves

Baritone Christopher Purves explores the boundless dramatic worlds of George Frederic Handel, in a powerful recital.

In recent years, Christopher Purves has emerged as one of the supreme dramatic baritones of our time – an artist of gripping theatricality and sense of character. Supported by the virtuoso period-instrument players of Arcangelo, this all-Handel recital should be compelling.

For operagoers, Purves’s shattering interpretation of the title role in Glyndebourne’s recent production of Handel’s Saul came as a revelation. In this recital, conducted by Handel specialist Jonathan Cohen, he ranges from the high drama of Handel’s early Italian operas through to the piercing emotion of his late oratorios. No-one who’s excited by great singing will want to miss this.
