Alternate Realities

Sheffield Doc/Fest Touring Exhibition

Alternate Realities

The UK’s premiere documentary festival, Sheffield Doc/Fest, shares highlights from its Alternate Realities programme, dedicated to interactive augmented reality and virtual reality projects.

What exactly will be shown is still under wraps, but Alternate Realities curator Dan Tucker says it’s likely to include a significant interactive VR piece which uses the latest headset, a 360-degree video documentary and a third screen-based installation. Prepare to discover Virtual Reality (VR) in a way that will change your appreciation of the medium.

As an interactive and immersive documentary-maker himself, Tucker is passionate about the power of VR and AR to tell stories. ‘I believe these are cultural artworks, which is part of why the Barbican is so appropriate as the first stop on our UK tour.’

The exhibition will be accompanied by documentary screenings in the Barbican cinemas.

This exhibition is part of our 2018 season The Art of Change, which explores how the arts respond to, reflect and potentially effect change in the social and political landscape.

Presented by Sheffield Doc/Fest and Barbican Centre, with support from Arts Council England.
