Marketing Assistant (Classical Music)

Job Type: Permanent, full time (35 hours)

Salary: £24,880 per annum

The Barbican’s goal is to inspire more people to discover and love the arts.

We attract new arts audiences and participants, creating inspiring arts experiences for all. From first encounters to higher education programmes, we develop interests, skills, confidence and careers.

We’re looking for a music obsessed and willing to learn communicator to join our Marketing Team as the Marketing Assistant for Classical Music. If you’re energetic, proactive and organised, with the initiative and drive to engage in a variety of activities, this could be the role for you. This is a busy role, juggling multiple deadlines and campaigns simultaneously.

What can you expect on a day-to-day basis? You’ll…

  • Keep our event pages up to date
  • Implement and report on digital and outdoor marketing campaigns
  • Connect to our audiences through emails
  • Co-ordinate printed marketing assets
  • Collaborate closely with Barbican colleagues and liaise with our resident and associate orchestras
  • Work on cross artform projects within the Marketing team

But unexpected days pop up, so you’ll need to be able to react quickly and prioritise your workload. A fuller description of the role is detailed in the Job Description document.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A love and knowledge of Classical Music and the London Classical Music landscape
  • Some experience in or interest in marketing
  • Great writing skills, namely the ability to communicate what’s valuable to our audience
  • Great editing skills too – this is as important as your writing
  • Experience in dealing with a busy workload and prioritising tasks
  • A positive can-do attitude
  • A hunger to learn and improve

It’s not essential for you to have 100% of these attributes – we encourage you to apply if you are strong in some skills and would like to further develop others.

We welcome applications from anyone who isn’t currently working in music/the arts or marketing already – as this is an entry-level position, so your ability to demonstrate your interest and your transferable skills are of more importance. Mostly, we want you to enjoy making a valuable contribution towards our marketing strategy for the Classical Music programme and wider Marketing team.
