Alva Noto returns to the Barbican on 4 March 2018 to present his new audio visual show titled UNIEQAV. The pseudonym of Berlin-based German artist and musician Carsten Nicolai, he has released experimental, electronica and glitch music spanning the last twenty years. 2017 marks the start of a new chapter as NOTON, the label Nicolai founded in 1994 begins to work independently again after a 20 year partnership with RASTER MEDIA, releasing all of Alva Noto’s back catalogue whilst planning future releases.

He has toured extensively through Europe, Asia, South America and the US including performances at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (New York), Centre Pompidou (Paris) and Tate Modern (London). Carsten Nicolai’s collaborators have included Ryuichi Sakamoto, Ryoji Ikeda (in a duo dubbed cyclo), Blixa Bargeld and Mika Vainio. Alongside Ryuichi Sakamoto, Nicolai composed the soundtrack to director Alejandro González Iñárritu's 2015 film The Revenant. The score was nominated for both the Golden Globe and British Film Academy Awards in 2016. As a visual artist Nicolai’s work has been shown in both solo and group exhibitions worldwide, as well as within Documenta X and the 49th and 50th Venice Biennales.
