Mary Said What She Said

Théâtre de la Ville–Paris

Actress Isabelle Huppert poses as Mary Stuart in an old-fashioned gown against a purple background.

Academy Award nominee Isabelle Huppert and director Robert Wilson reunite on this breathtaking show charting the life and torments of Mary Stuart, the sovereign whose passions cost her a crown.

Mary Said What She Said is the testimony of Mary Queen of Scots drawn from her letters about her involvement in some of the most notorious plots of her time. She is lying, but on the eve of execution has fear persuaded her that she is telling the truth?

Mary Stuart is a woman who battled the forces of history in order to control her own destiny. Even as she faces martyrdom after nineteen years in captivity, her spirit remains unbroken. Award-winning French actress Isabelle Huppert gives a tour de force performance in this remarkable production from Théâtre de la Ville–Paris.

Directed and designed by Robert Wilson, the American theatre visionary. This UK premiere is written by novelist and playwright Darryl Pinckney and features an evocative classical score by the Italian composer Ludovico Einaudi.

Latecomers will not be admitted.

Age guidance: 14+ (contains a sudden loud noise during the performance)
