This free outdoor event takes place along the Regent's Canal, off De Beauvoir Road, from 1pm.
Join us for a day of celebrations as East London welcomes the 2012 Olympic Torch relay.
Collaborating for the fourth year running, the Barbican and Shoreditch Trust bring you a top quality mix of live music, theatre, dance, storytelling and art animating the Regent's Canal and celebrating the creativity of East London.
Stroll along the tow path, jump aboard the Barbican boat, catch performances in bathing booths and relax in our vintage picnic area.
Waterhouse Roof The Urban Playground 2pm, 3pm, 4pm & 5pm (5 mins) From the creators of Parkour, a breathtaking performance across the roof tops of Shoreditch. Watch from the canal’s towpath!
De Beauvoir Gardens Relax and enjoy performances and activities in our vintage picnic area and Victorian bathing booths! Highlights include: Puppet Paramour 1-3pm & 3.30-6pm (10 mins) Step inside for a one-to-one with Boogaloo Stu, as he makes your very own sock puppet
Croctopus 1pm, 1.45pm, 2.30pm, 3.30pm, 4.30pm & 5.30pm (11 mins) A surreal, dancing sea monster by The Arch of Starch
Kissing the Gunner’s Daughter 1.30pm, 2.45pm, 4pm & 5.15pm (20 mins) Peep into the bathing booth to watch this otherwordly light and puppet show about sea bathers, sailers and mermaids by The Grist to Mill
Barbican Future Band 2pm & 4pm (1 hour) Ever wanted to be in a band? Come and perform with us. Sign up in advance on our website or drop in on the day for one of two open 30-min workshops. No experience necessary.
Also throughout the day, 1 - 6pm Strandline: be mesmerised by the gorgeous images created by a giant kaleidoscope A Small Museum of Displaced Sea: settle back into a deckchair and dip your toes in sand in this audio installation by Karavan Ensemble Ride along the canal in a paper boat Build your own paper boat Help the Poet-tree flourish
Barbican Boat Jump aboard and take a trip down the canal while watching films by the Barbican Young Film Makers, and listening to the work of the Barbican Young Poets. Poetry workshops: an afternoon of open and accessible poetry as a way into writing about journeys, inspired by the river. Led by Jacob Sam-La Rose and the Barbican Young Poets, a community of emerging poets designed to push creative abilities to new heights.
